Which are the most committed American universities with Open Source software?

Barcelona – The first Ranking of Universities in Open Source for United States (OSuR 2014) has been published by PortalProgramas.com. There you'll find:

  • Which universities divulge more FOSS?
  • Which US states are most engaged with Open Source software?
  • In which aspects related to Open Source stands out each university?
  • What factors influence the use of FOSS software in college?
  • Used data, statistical analysis and results are public.

Through the ranking we analyzed the work of more than 297 American universities in creation and divulgation of Open Source software. For this 18 criteria and indicators divided into 4 different aspects have been used for statistical analysis. All the methodology followed and the results are public and can be consulted on the website of OSuR 2014.

The first position of the ranking has been for the Tufts University (near Boston, Massachusetts), followed by the Utah State University in second place and the University of Notre Dame in third. According to states, Utah has the highest score, while the second and third rank, respectively, are for Massachusetts and Indiana.

This ranking shows information about the strengths and weaknesses of each university and its evolution. It can be useful for universities to know in which areas they need to improve or collaborate between them.
