Pros

Test a new OS and new software without risks.
Easy configuration and easy to run.
You can create virtual machines.

Cons

Run a system into a system demands a lot of computer resources.

VMware Player is a software that creates a virtual computer inside your own computer. This grants security for your real system, and is useful to test programs and configurations that could be harmful. It even has his own OS (operating system), so it emulate very well the main environment for software... and malware hidden inside it.

With VMware you can also achieve something so weird as use Linux on Windows. You can navigate from there, install programs, manage files...but your real computer files will be safe.

But this features have an high cost in computer resources: you would be running two operating systems at once. So assure to use it only if you have a good computer.

This is one of the easiest ways to run a virtual machine, a closed and safe environment for tech support or test purposes. Is also handy to put and standrad and limited desktop to company computers, so you can control what they install an grant the security of the computer.

VMware is free and compatible with other Vmware apps like Vmware Workstation and ESX Server.
